The aim of this class is to familiarize students with tropical weather and climate. The role of the tropics in the general circulation of the Earth will be addressed. Components of the tropical climate system such as tropical waves, tropical cyclones (hurricanes, typhoons), the monsoon and tropical convective systems in general will be covered. Other, periodic and a periodic links between the tropics and middle latitudes (such as the El Nino-Southern Oscillation phenomenon) will also be investigated
